North American P-51D Mustang ‘Nooky Booky IV’ was delivered to the Canadian Air Force with serial No. 9592.
She was taken off strength from the RCAF in 1958 and sold to the United States under civil registration N9148R and 2 years later it was converted into a Cavalier Executive Mustang registered as N2251D.
In 1962, she was bought by North American Rockwell and flown by the famous Bob Hoover. On the 20th January 1965 she was damaged in a crash-landing at Myrtle Beach and then immediately rebuilt.
In 1970, she was badly damaged on the ground when Oxygen bottles exploded, again she was rebuilt.
John J. Stokes owned her from 1975 to 1978, John T. Baigh / Baugh Aviation from 1978 to 1989 and Paul Romine / Aero Charter Inc. from 1990 to 1994.
In 1994 she was acquired by Brian Hoffner / Kenair Inc. and was given the livery of ‘Nooky Booky IV’, 411622.
The mustang was sold to Christophe Jacquard/JCB Aviation in France in 1998.
In 2000, she was registered in France as F-AZSB and sold to Christian Amara who continued to fly the mustang as ‘Nooky Booky IV’ until 2006.
It was flown for France Flying Warbirds of Melun-Villaroche and, more recently, for the SDPA - Société de Développement et de Promotion de l'Aviation at La Ferté Alais.
In 2009 ‘Nooky Book’ IV was repainted for George Lucas’ movie Red Tails.
In 2021 the Flying Bulls, owned by the Austrian Red Bull company, added ‘Nooky Booky IV’ to their aircraft collection.
